This is me with my family of origin and our guide.
It was long ago and far away yet as relevant today as it was then. I still look deeply into this photo and wonder what are we doing besides the obvious, being tourists.
We lived in three countries and five states in the US. As a child, my family moved often enough for me to go to twelve schools in twelve years before, by some miracle, graduating from high school. After that, my mother never moved again.
I like observing people and situations and thinking about why people do what they do. Often, non-fiction is beyond anything that can be made up in fiction. I like hearing and telling stories.
That is how and why I became a documentary filmmaker in my life’s third act. I eventually graduated from the University of California at Berkeley’s Dramatic Art Department and have almost exhausted the film-related courses at Berkeley City College’s Multimedia Department. I also draw on my life experiences as a nomadic youth having met many people from different cultures and countries.
